A native of small-town West Texas, Amy was always trying to force her steak-eating, beer swilling friends to eat meals out at the only organic restaurant in town and trying to make up for the 10 SUVs on the block with the smallest VW she could find. Now, a fully-integrated Brooklynite, she finds plenty of foodies to eat with and doesn’t drive at all!
Outside of writing for Inspired Women, Amy coordinates a joint academic program between Yale University in the US and Peking University in China. She also volunteers with the Empowerment and Rights Institute, a Beijing-based human rights organization, and with The Women’s Mosaic in NYC. Amy is also a passionate advisor for women leaders at Princeton and Yale Universities.
Amy has a Master's degree in East Asian Languages and Cultures from Columbia University, where she focused on female religious leaders in Taiwan. While there, she was a member of the Columbia University Law School chapter of Amnesty International and a champion of Columbia’s East Asian studies poker players. She continues to both support Amnesty International and play a mean hand of poker.
Amy also likes practicing ashtanga yoga, running in Prospect Park, riding her bicycle to Coney Island, working at the Park Slope Co-op, and buying old furniture.
